It offers low vision and blind people text recognition and audio playback by converting printed text to speech. To operate, simply switch-on, release the camera arm and place reading material beneath the high resolution camera. The factory default contains 2 US (English - Male & Female), Spanish (American) and French (Canadian), but the purchaser may request that the presets be set to any desirable 4, allowing the user the ability to toggle between the 4 selected languages. The Optelec ClearReader+ Basic offers the same design, functionality, compatibility and ease of use as the Optelec ClearReader+, enabling users to read printed correspondence, daily newspapers and magazines with just the press of a button. However, the main difference of the Optelec ClearReader+ Basic is in its power supply and price. The ClearReader+ Basic is AC powered and has no built-in battery but is still unique to the market in its portability, weight, and high-quality speech output. This is a great new option for those who are more sensitive to costs and intend to use it in a continued setting at their home or office. SPECIAL NOTE: The ClearReader+ Basic cannot be upgraded with a built-in battery and must be purchased as is.

The Optelec ClearReader+ Advanced includes the Optelec ClearReader+ and a Magnification Feature Pack. The Magnification Feature Pack expands the functionality of the Optelec ClearReader+ scanning and text-to-speech reading device, and now offers electronic video magnifier and document saving capabilities. By the press of a button, low vision users can both view and/or listen to scanned or saved text instantly and simultaneously with user-friendly controls.
